ALL THE OCEAN HAS TO OFFER

SOLITUDE, PEACE, BEAUTY, AND FOOD!

The many treasures of the ocean

by Del Albright

There is always a magical moment the first time you get up close and personal with the ocean. Waves, birds, the smell, the sound of the surf, rocks, seashells, and sand all come together to enhance your feeling of well-being. I love it all.

Sometimes we just sit in a drift wood "fort" and enjoy the view while listening to the birds.

Sunsets at the beach are always special in the West.

And then there's the tide pools full of secrets and surprises.

We hope you find the time to spend some moments on the beach, enjoying the ocean.

OREGON TIDE POOLS

LOW TIDE OCEANSIDE EXPLORING

Minus Tide Along the Oregon Coast with Incredible Tide Pools

By Del Albright, June 2017

Exploring the ocean beach during a minus (very low) tide is an amazing outdoor experience for all ages, from young to old.  The Oregon coast has a number of great places where this adventure can be had for a short walk.

It is important to remember that certain times of years there are nesting birds on the rocks offshore and they should not be disturbed by getting too close or causing them to fly off their nests.  Look for congregations and just stay back a respectable distance.

The kelp and grass growing attached to the rocks can be very slippery and hazardous to walking, but just take care and perhaps carry along a walking stick.

Barnacles and sea anemones are abundant in low tide areas, along with muscles.

Sea stars, or star fish are one of my favorite finds on the coast if any ocean.  These guys living in a shallow tide pool with sea anemones make for a great photo.

And no matter how fancy ocean-side luxury resorts build their swimming pools along the coast, nothing can match what Mamma Nature has to offer.  Remember to be respectful, stay back from nesting birds, walk carefully, and pick up after your pets.  The ocean is to be explored and enjoyed by all.  Tide pools are a special treat.

Mendocino Coast Photo Essay and Tour

I posted up a bunch of cool pics from our tour of the Mendocino Coast. If you're looking for a get away, or just some way cool things to do and places to see, check out these shots of things like kayaking the Noyo River, riding the Skunk Train, and enjoying a romantic evening horseback ride on the beach. Awesome.

Travel: Mendocino Coast of Northern CA --- awe inspiring

Mendocino Coast, CA

The Mendocino Coast of northern California is a magical place to visit and Stacie and I can attest to that first hand. We had a marvelous adventure there in July 2009 and here are some highlights to help you plan a trip. It's one of those "don't miss it" places.

For a marvelous time in Mendocino of the northern California coast, we can highly recommend the following businesses and fun activities.

Esterlina Winery with a marvelous Pinot Noir 2007; and Goldeneye Winery, Host of our tour reception night.

Joshua Grindle Inn where we found a new scale by which to measure B&B's -- this place is a treasure.

Liquid Fusion Kayaking with up close and personal water experiences.

Ricochet Ridge Ranch with Lari Shea -- horseback vacations and beach riding.

Ledford House food with a Mediterranean influence and live jazz.
The truly fun and famous, Skunk Train.

Stacie and I spent a lovely time there and learned a lot about this marvelous coastal area. Mendocino is full of history, art, ocean and wonderfully friendly businesses who enjoy visitors.
