NEVADA 4WD ASSOC. LAUNCHED!

NEVADA HAS NEW GROUP PROTECTING ACCESS TO PUBLIC LANDS

The Nevada Four Wheel Drive Association is officially launched  alive and well, protecting access to Nevada's Public Lands for 4x4 recreation and all of us.

Incorporated with the assistance of the Calif. Assoc. of 4Wheel Drive Clubs (CA4WDC), in close partnership, N4WDA has a Board of Directors and President to get things going.

Larry Calkins is the founding President, a resident of Dayton, NV.  The Board consists of:


Carole Vance, of Dayton, NV, Vice President.
Don Spuhler, of Georgetown, CA, Secretary.
Phil Bender, of Reno, NV, Treasurer.
Mark Cave, of Fresno, CA, Board Member at Large

The mission of the N4WDA is: Working for YOU to keep Nevada's public lands open!  Dedicated to preserving responsible access to Nevada backcountry, while uniting the Nevada four-wheel drive community, providing leadership, governmental oversight, and education to recreationists.

So far, the Board has not finalized the membership categories  but they are forth coming.  Right now they ask that if you're a Facebook person, you follow along there for updates.

HARRY REID WANTS MORE NV WILDERNESS NEAR BRIDGEPORT

NV -CA  FOLKS: LAND BILL FOR COPPER MINE TO INCLUDE MORE WILDERNESS -- SWEETWATER MOUNTAINS?

Yerington, NV land bill for copper mine has Senator Harry Reid asking for more Wilderness, again...this time for land between Smith Valley and Bridgeport, CA -- which sounds like the Sweetwater Mountains to me.

This just broke today, so we don't have all the facts nor have we seen a map.   Please chime in if you have more info.

Today's Reno Gazette Journal ran this story of Harry Reid being on record aggressively trying to negotiate for more wilderness designation set aside in the area ".between Smith Valley and Bridgeport". 

It has to do with the land bill and copper mine near Yerington, NV.

IS NEVADA READY FOR STATEWIDE GROUP?

Nevada is a current hot bed of landuse intrigue...is it time for statewide communications and coordination? Wilderness; endangered species; road closures; and more continue to pop up in this great state. Yet from my research and checking around, there is no one group orchestrating the overall strategy to fight back and make a solid future for motorized recreation.

If I am wrong, please point me in the right direction.

If I am right, let's talk about what we can do about it.

BlueRibbon Coalition has helped with several efforts over the years, all the way back to the start of the Travel Management Rule when BRC and ORBA were helping several clubs and groups get organized. I've talked to several NV folks and the thinking is that there should be a statewide multiple-use group (all sports). Other folks have mentioned bringing back another NV United for the 4x4 folks and letting the ATV folks build their own group.

Of course, rock hounding and hunting/fishing are two huge sports that need representation too.

And then there is the size of NV where travel to meetings and such is pretty expensive and time consuming. So my thought would be to offer to help start a statewide virtual group if nothing else. Some folks have joined Cal4wheel (CA4WDC) which is a great option too, especially for the CA border areas. But what if we launched some statewide communications, virtually, like in a coalition of some sort?

Some folks may remember we had just that many years ago. It was callled the Nevada Coalition for Equal Recreation (NCER). http://www.delalbright.com/access/ncer.htm

However NV folks choose to go, BlueRibbon Coalition is wanting to help. Both Don Amador (my BRC partner) and I travel and recreate a lot in NV, and we don't want to lose any more access. Just chime in and let us know what your thoughts are.

TAP Tour (TAPT) Update September 25

AZ and NV Clubs and Friends,

Update on the Del & Stacie Albright Trail Access Partnership Tour (TAPT) to Southern AZ/NV in November.

JOIN US for the fun, the adventure and the landuse!

Our TAP Tour will take us from SEMA to Hump ‘n Bump in Logandale, NV, to Bullhead City and Lake Havasu City, AZ, then to Parker AZ for Desert Splash with the Parker 4Wheelers. Rick Pewe from Petersen’s 4Wheel & Offroad will joining us on the Tour and covering the adventure.  We are teasing Rick that this might be the Ultimate Adventure of Landuse.  (smile).  Denis Snow of Off Road Adventures (ORA) Magazine will also cover the story.  ORA as you know is the magazine of 4Wheel Parts.   Both these editors/publications are huge supporters of landuse and keeping our outdoor sports alive.   

We will have some awesome business partners joining us along the way, and at the organized events: T&T Customs; Nemesis Industries; Trail-Gear; Daystar; Olympic4x4 Products; Raceline Wheels; GenRight Off Road; Dave’s Customs Unlimited; and others…

Our first real stop is to cruise SEMA most all week, the hit Hump ‘n Bump with the Vegas Valley 4Wheelers on Thursday night, to run their organized trails Friday and Saturday. 

Sunday we will mosey down to Bullhead City, AZ, to stay a couple nights in the Mojave County Parks Davis Camp RV Park (hopefully space C2). Sunday and Monday nights are “open campfire” time where we can hook up, talk landuse, talk about saving your trails, learning more about AZ issues, whatever comes to mind.  We are YOUR BlueRibbon Coalition reps, so bring us the “news” good and bad.  Let’s work together to see what BRC can do more for you.  We will be doing some local area sight-seeing and area orientation as well.

Tuesday afternoon we’ll pull into Lake Havasu City, AZ (looking for an RV park for the night) and have another “open campfire” where ever we are.  Wednesday we’d like to spend time with local clubs and folks who can get away from work to tell us about the area and what BlueRibbon Coalition can do to keep this awesome area open.

Wednesday night we’ll pull into the La Paz County Park in Parker, AZ to prep and get ready for the Desert Splash with the Parker 4Wheelers the rest of the weekend.

At both Hump ‘n Bump and Desert Splash we will have a BRC booth, so please join us at these great events and support the clubs, as well as BRC.

Summer Land Use Trip Day 3, Utah

Day 3 of our Summer Land Use Trip started off with memories still hanging on of Lamoille Canyon.  Stacie got this beaver pond shot (which is up in the Ruby Mountains not far from Elko, NV).   What a great place.  We love the outback of Nevada and the many sights you can see with just a little exploring.

Elko, NV has one of the coolest museums full of natural and cultural history.  It's always worth a stop, especially for young eyes and ears.  Learning is always a part of our travels -- for all of us.   Get this, they found the bones of a Mastadon right outside town, not that long ago (the find).  He's been dead for 2 millions years.  Wow.

It the 1920's there was a cow thief around Elko County (Crazy Tex) that made up and used "cow shoes" to disguise his cattle rustling habit.   They never saw human foot prints after many rustlings over the years.  No one could figure it out.  He acquired quite a few steak dinners before ever getting caught.  Oh yea, they finally got him and he did a little time.  But everyone thought he was pretty inventive.   He was later shotgunned to death when he was in the 70's by a fueding neighbor.  

We are going to do some sightseeing around Salt Lake City next.  Utah is one of our favorite states. 

Reno, NV, Motorsports and RV Show, March 2010

Hump 'N Bump, Vegas Style, Logandale, NV

We are planning to be at this awesome four-wheeling event in November near Las Vegas, NV, and encourage folks to sign up and attend this one.  It's a blast, not to mention some beautiful scenery.  We're talking red rocks, sand dunes, and wild big horn sheep to boot.   It's called the Hump 'N Bump.

What is Hump N Bump?

Hump N Bump is the largest event of the year where you will get to experience terrain like no other. The Vegas Valley 4 Wheelers has been putting on this run for 29 years now and it keeps getting larger and larger with participants from all over the country.

Starting back in 2007, proceeds from the event go to the Southern Nevada Trail Fund who's purpose is to educate and maintain legal motorized access to all points of interest in public lands throughout Southern Nevada. The SNTF is a 100% volunteer organization. So come out and have a great time while helping keep our trails open!

When is Hump N Bump?
The 29th Annual Hump N Bump will take place November 6th and 7th 2009.

Reno (NV) Rocks 4x4 in June – Wow!

Don't miss this one if you live close enough to Reno, NV to make it, Father's Day weekend. Rock crawlers, Hammer Kings, Pirates, Teeter Totters, RTI, parades, parties, show and shine, and you name it, this Little City is coming alive. W.E. ROCK will be there doing their thing as well.
