DISCOVERERS, DEVELOPERS, AND MERCHANTS OF PUBLIC LANDS

DISCOVERERS, DEVELOPERS, AND MERCHANTS How the old west gold mining and modern land use are similar By Del Albright The old prospector no longer gave a hoot about all the talk of getting rich during the 1849 gold rush. No matter how he looked at it, it was dang hot and ugly mean in the western desert, and he’d not had a decent drink of water or a good meal in days. He was hot and tired; his mule was dragging, and his supplies were about gone. He was having about as much fun as a jackrabbit at a coyote picnic. With no gold in his pockets, he gave up for the day and settled in next to a ledge of rocks that provided some shade. He tipped back his sweaty, worn-out hat and began to collect a few rocks to make a small fire ring. The last of his hard-tack would taste mighty fine about now and he still had one can of beans to heat up. Then it struck him like a mule kick in the butt! His fire ring of rocks was the best gold ore he’d ever seen. He was suddenly going to be a rich man living the l...

STEWARDSHIP: OUR LANDS IN OUR HANDS!

🛻🌲 Land Stewardship = Trail Access! Whether you're in a Jeep, SxS, or dirt bike, our access depends on how we treat the land. Let’s lead by example with responsible motorized recreation. 🚧 Stay on trail 🗑 Pack it out 🔧 Help maintain 💪 Our lands; in our hands! #LandStewardship #MotorizedRecreation #StayOnTrail #TreadLightly #KeepTrailsOpen #JeepLife #OverlandResponsibly #DirtLife #PublicLands #DelAlbright BEING STEWARDS OF OUR MOTORIZED ACCESS MEANS KEEPING IT AVAILABLE Land Stewardship is the key to keeping our lands in our hands. What does "land stewardship" really mean?  In simplest of terms it means caring, responsible management and use of our lands. If we do not take care of our playgrounds, "they" will be glad to take them away from us. There is no better way to keep motorsports alive and trails open than to be a good steward of whatever lands you have to play on.  Enjoy yourself; have fun; challenge your rig; ride hard; r...

EXPLORING AND ENJOYING OUR FREEDOMS

THE FREEDOM TO EXPLORE OUR GREAT COUNTRY The Jeep Lifestyle and Off-Road Exploring for Fun By Del Albright Four-wheeling, Jeeping, off-roading- call it what you will- is all about freedom. It's about the freedom to explore the backcountry or wherever your tires take you. I treasure that freedom and hope that you do as well. You just never know what you will find if you let your mind wander and follow interesting roads. I love finding remnants of past mining days.  Sometimes I can figure out what things were used for, other times I just take a picture and enjoy thinking about our history in America. Here are my tips for ensuring we can continue to enjoy the backcountry and our freedoms: 1. Always obey the rules and signs. 2. Stay on designated routes and roads. 3. Take emergency gear and food just in case... 4. Let others know where you are headed. 5. Leave as little trace as you can. 6. Tread Lightly. 7. Respect private property. Just get out there and explore! MORE  HELPFUL L...

DEL ALBRIGHT BOOK ON EPIC FAMILY HISTORY

THE LATEST BOOK FROM DEL ALBRIGHT TALES FROM THE OL' RIVER By Del Albright I am excited and proud to announce the release of my new book,  Tales from the Ol’ River . It is my family’s epic story of survival during the Great Depression as they followed the Oregon Trail from Missouri to Oregon during those trying times. Laced with historical facts, the book blends in real-life stories and commentary from my family records and journals. I thank this family history for giving me the foundation of who I am today. The book talks of survival, hunting, trapping, gardening, living off the land, and bonding as a family during the trying times of hardship during the Depression of the 1930s.  It is available today on Amazon as an eBook (Kindle) or paperback. A SOCIETY AFRAID IS EASILY CONTROLLED

A SOCIETY AFRAID IS A SOCIETY DEBILITATED AND READY TO BE CORRALLED.                                                                    By Del Albright Take the bit in your mouth and head for the barn -- if you are afraid, you are easily controlled and corralled in the barn. Fear is the most powerful control factor in our modern-day lives.  If you are corralled, you are not roaming free or enjoying the green grass on the other side of the fence.  You are boxed in, contained, controlled, and manipulated in how you live your life.  Be not confused. In the most extreme example, terrorism is just fear incarnate. Bullies use fear.  Terrorists use fear.  If you are afraid, you are ripe for manipulation, control, and allowing someone else to dictate how you spend your days.  FORGET THAT! Yes...

DON'T STAGNATE; GET OFF THE FENCE; TAKE ACTION!

DON'T STAGNATE; GET OFF THE FENCE AND TAKE ACTION TO SAVE TRAILS       The Time for Fence-Sitting is Over       Just do it! By Del Albright Feel like you're stuck in a rut these days?  Get the impression that the world is half on hold? And do you find yourself "sitting on the fence" about many things going on around you?  Well, it's time to get off that fence and make something happen. While there is nothing normal about our world right now, there are still things we can be doing to be proactive to have a better future.  For motorized recreation friends, we can still support our associations/clubs with donations and staying engaged as a member.  Online meetings and workshop are another choice.   Zoom meetings can help you ease back into being involved.  Club gatherings are always a good motivator. Just do something to get you off the fence, thinking it will all be fine... Help others get off the fence.  Lead...

PREVENTING WILDFIRES DURING SUMMER RECREATION

NINE WILDFIRE PREVENTION FOR MOTORIZED RECREATIONISTS By Del Albright, Retired Fire Chief TO: ALL Summer Recreationists, especially my motorized/Jeep/OHV friends, please take heed of these wildfire prevention tips from our friends at ModernJeeper . 1. MUFFLERS/SPARK ARRESTORS: This should not be a question—equip your rig/Jeep the right way to avoid causing a wildfire with an inadvertent spark or blast of hot carbon from your muffler. 2. STAY ON THE TRAIL: Most trails are well used enough that it’s safe to travel without fear of starting a fire — if you stay on the trail (and make sure you adhere to #1 above). If you have to legally pull over, do not do it in a dry grassy area where hot pipes can ignite fuels. 3. TAKE CARE WITH CAMPFIRES: Western fire season restrictions usually curtail campfires, but if you are in an area where a small campfire is OK, FOLLOW all the rules of your fire permit and common sense that says avoid windy days, clear a big enough space around...
