7 TIPS FOR SEEING THE COUNTRY BY 4X4 WHEREVER YOU LIVE By Del Albright Four-wheeling is more than just bouncing around in rocks doing hardcore trails. Stacie and I do our share of rocks like the Rubicon Trail and Moab, UT, but we have also found that exploring, or overlanding, or jeep camping, or just 4×4 touring really has some fun side benefits.  And yes, we don’t break our rigs nearly as much! The main tips for four exploring include: Have a good map and/or GPS with a SPOT or other tracker so your friends and family can follow along. Plan your trip and let folks know your schedule. Take plenty of water (and fuel, of course).  If you are not “finding a bush often” you are probably not drinking enough, especially in the desert. Have a first aid kit and know how to use it, but most importantly, know how to keep the blood in and the victim breathing. JEEP TALK SHOW POINTED OUT THAT JEEP HAS SET NEW RECORDS 495,000 jeeps sold already in USA, in half a year. By Del Albright I was listening to the Jeep Talk Show podcast and they pointed out that the Jeep brand is breaking all records and might even break even their own best records. By Del Albright I published this blog last year during a terrible fire season, and I am going to republish it again this year, right now, as 2018 appears to be another raging fire season year. Wildfires continue to destroy our heritage and natural resources in the West, while in many cases aggressive fire suppression has been lacking on federal lands . We recently heard the term "minimal impact fire suppression" -- meaning really that they intend to stand back mostly and watch it burn. They "hope" the fire goes out and doesn't do much damage.  Federal land managers have been plagued for years with "tactics" forced on them like "let it burn" or "prescribed fire, un planned ignition" or "let Nature take its course." LACK OF UNITY IN MOTORIZED ENTHUSIASTS Why Are We Not Good Followers? By Del Albright Why would you expect a person like me (four wheeler, dune buggier, old dirt biker, wanna-be snowmobiler) who is living the American Dream of Freedom of Expression to be a good follower?  Why should I not be completely skeptical?  Why is it we have such a hard time following another volunteer? Here is what I have found that hinders us from being good followers. Well first off, we are pretty territorial.   Turf battles are not uncommon in the OHV world.  Membership struggles are a constant reminder that we want to hang onto our own; no matter what and no matter how ineffective we or our group might be. Secondly, we’re self-serving sometimes .
